my creative space: tonights edition

pre drill
If youre not into fixing stuff this will be really boring so look away now.
However I took shots today for those of you who are.

insert long screw

stop before the end

hacksaw off head

or twist off after sawing halfway

the putty I used

push putty into hole and overfill slightly

anywhere else that needs it too

smooth out to save sanding time

clean out any cracks first

before glueing with PVA

clamp

putty crack above and below seat using a diagonal swipe

screw on metal bracings

The 2nd chair

mend any dowelings with long screws and hacksaw off

unscrew old large chunky wood one at a time

side view (urgghhh)

screw bracing on before removing second wooden piece

remove second wooden piece and screw on second metal brace

Once I got the tools out it only took me 45 minutes or so to fix both chairs.
Im now watching glue and putty dry.

I was going to try and be all witty with a comment about how riveted I was .... but sadly the repairs did not involve riveting. Oh well.

I have to say that I do love a bit reconstructive puttying! That stuff is magic.

I hadn't thought of sawing the tops of the screws. The ugliness of them is one reason I haven't repaired some of mine. Keep it up you are going well. Cherrie

I'm not really one for fixing things... but I still found that post interesting. Perhaps I'll give it a go some time. Thanks.
