flea market finds

Im a sucker for anything that reflects the seasons apparently.  And these tapestries are what I found when I was out country last week. At $3.00 each I couldnt leave them. The frames are the perfect size for a project ive been waiting to start. I do love them but they are so dated that now im at a loss as to how best to update them while not destroying the work that someones loving hands have so patiently worked.
Perhaps she started the one for summer during, well, Summer

and the Winter scene sitting by the fire one long cold winter.

The Spring blossom tree really caught my eye

but because its Autumn now this one is my current favourite.

So what do you think I should do? The green and brown surrounds need to disappear and the frames kind of let them down too. How best could I showcase such lovely work while giving them a modern take? Ive thought about surrounding them in natural linen and keeping them together in one big frame but id love to hear any other ideas,
please help.

Be sure to pop on over here to see some more lovely finds.

Hope you had a cosy autumnal weekend with the ones you love, x

What about getting the backing and the top glass cut to the exact circle shape (to cover it) and glue together. And put a plate holder on it to hang...
or make lovely cushions from them, with crushed velvet or thick satin borders. I love tapestry cushions...

pS I found a little red dress from the Op shop for my brothers engagement party, its a halter neck dress! So now I have to find one of those strapless bras to keep my b00bs off the floor. Damn. I wish I had gravity defying b00bs!

You could sew them onto a backing fabric, with a bit of a border and make a biger wall hanging or quilt type thing? They are gorgeous, colours are great! I'm willing your mojo back - mine is inermitent of late ...

Cushions or if they are cross stitch then bags. Cherrie

I would simply paint the daggy brown frames a nice creamy white, and change the mount board ( I think thats what you call that sheet of card between the frame and tapestry)? Then I would group on wall in a square. Think they would look delightful.

hmm i think Michelle Macdonald's plate idea could be interesting. they'd probably look very chic is a modern frame too. I think i'd leave them separate though. but i am sure whatever you decide will look fabulous! great find!

Hi thanks for visiting my blog and leaving lovely comments. And the address, I had tried looking you up through blogger and couldnt. I love Marli's quilt, are you going to quilt it? It's a bit spooky, we have a few things in common, I can't eat cooked onion, I am a tucker inner of my kids, especially scrunching doonas near their neck, always have heaps of projects on and have been looking at a pattern for a crochet rug on Ravelry almost identical to the one on your blog. Thanks for putting me on your blog roll, I feel very honored. Have a great day.
