announcement

With all of the choices of names with their multitude of different connotations ive never been sure of what name my womens clothing label would be. I have always liked the word Piece. It is simple and it pretty much sums up what I do and how I do it in one singular word. A piece of clothing, a one off, made from, again, a piece of cloth or pieces of embroideries ive found. These labels above are what I had made up when a few years back I was making dresses for Lyn Gardeners store, Empire Vintage. She was extremely nice to the creatively, sporadic, mother of four that I was and didnt ever ask too much of me by way of stock. Just allowed me to bring in whatever designs took my fancy at the time. I hardly had to make the same thing twice.

Anyhow that name, Piece alone, hasnt been available for a few years.
I checked. By the time I had the plan to use it as a label name someone had already thought of it. But annoyingly not for clothing or anything to do with it to my knowledge. A Google search and you get this. So the other night I had an idea to go one better and outsmart the outsmartee, typed in Piece by Wendy Hill... and because id attached my name it worked!
So I will now, a bit excitedly, be making womens dresses under my own label and not simply a byproduct of the blog as The Textured Leaf dresses. It was about time wasnt it? I have this week, opened an Etsy shop under that name and have been going about simplifying things, (being very hopeful here). I guess ill keep you updated.

announcement

size 2 eskimo for Nadia

Things will be a bit quiet here this week while I prepare to close shop
and get ready to go overseas with the Mr.
Were off to Vietnam and Cambodia to celebrate our 25th from last year. There is no way we were organised enough to go away for the actual anniversary!

I will be making myself some holiday clothes and things dont get too hectic
I may pop in to show you what im up to.
I dont really pack until the final day but I sew a whole stash in the lead up to that day,
and then choose what I want to take in the final moments. Not the most practical approach, I know, as I always make too much to actually pack, but its a great way to boost my wardrobe. I dont know about you but when im about to take off somewhere it frees up so much space in my mind to create. I think im an adrenalin junkie when it comes to sewing. Its going to be challenging as we'll be going to really hot and humid and cold mountainous regions too.

So far all ive packed is a raincoat. (not kidding)
The Mr on the other hand has been buying his stuff and hes all done.

Check the shop announcement for the details and dates for my kids clothes.

Ill be back the second week in May, depending on when Adelin has baby,
and production of the
Lumberjackets will be in full swing.

Ill be doing ladies sizes
 small   8-10,
medium   12,
large   14-16,

so just the three for now.

Some Heidi coats will be happening too!

an announcement

Id like to announce the small beginnings of my fresh new label Little Tree Kids. Ive finally made a decision to do this kids clothes making for real. Not just as a side line to my life, but, now that I have a wonderful studio space to work in, I feel like ive found my feet. But if you peeked in the window of an evening youd still find me cutting out at the kitchen table.
So... im taking a big deep breath and jumping in. My first market will be this weekend at The Mulgrave Makers Market. (See sidebar for details) Look for me next door to the retro inspired offerings of Eleesa from DorothyBills. Are you allowed to drink champagne at markets? You may see us celebrating getting there! Be sure to say hi, after all thats what markets are all about really, arent they?

Please note;  living with an artist for a husband does not always ensure he will complete artworked banners for you with a deadline/ultimatum given. Ahem, I kind of had to do this for myself after he had done a rough sketch of a tree not meant to serve as the finished work. It set me back a few weeks waiting.

In other news, my shop The Textured Leaf on Etsy will simply house some homewares. Updated with the seasons, as if you didnt guess. If this doesnt motivate me to finish off my quilts more regularly then I dont know what will. I have been hurriedly trying to empty one shop while stocking the other ( I need to figure out how to work Microsoft Office pronto)! Do not try this in the same week of an upcoming market. Enough said.

Perhaps this now explains my recent energy being channeled into trying to finish off my huge list of things around the house? Does anyone want to see the actual list? It gets added to each week of course. Lets call it the domino effect list.

To visit my new kids clothes shop click here, while the old one is still here waiting to be restocked with some homewares in the follow up weeks after the market this weekend.
Stay tuned for what ill be working on this week. Im going into the studio and closing the door as soon as ive given the youngest son his way-too-overdue haircut. I wonder if he'll cook me dinner tonight as payment?

In the meantime why dont you check out these gorgeous pencil wraps Eleesa has been working on. Shes offering one in a giveaway and theres still time to enter.

Hope youve had a nice weekend!
