shop update - eskimos

girls size 6

Just trying to do a quick shop update for the week.
This is my favourite of this batch and possibly the nicest mix of fabrics ever. I wish id bought more of that norwegian folk fabric every time I use it. I will never get sick of seeing it.

Ive tried to concentrate on providing some boys jackets this week before I get too carried away starting the girls.
They should be in the shop tomorrow.

dress production

After announcing my new label its only fitting the next dress should be a tree print. This one
has a pocket on each side.
These are part of my shop update tonight
but my heart is not really in it as ive just come across from Posie Gets Cosy.
She has had some devastating news so if youd like to send her some love by way of a kind comment im sure she would appreciate it.

announcement

With all of the choices of names with their multitude of different connotations ive never been sure of what name my womens clothing label would be. I have always liked the word Piece. It is simple and it pretty much sums up what I do and how I do it in one singular word. A piece of clothing, a one off, made from, again, a piece of cloth or pieces of embroideries ive found. These labels above are what I had made up when a few years back I was making dresses for Lyn Gardeners store, Empire Vintage. She was extremely nice to the creatively, sporadic, mother of four that I was and didnt ever ask too much of me by way of stock. Just allowed me to bring in whatever designs took my fancy at the time. I hardly had to make the same thing twice.

Anyhow that name, Piece alone, hasnt been available for a few years.
I checked. By the time I had the plan to use it as a label name someone had already thought of it. But annoyingly not for clothing or anything to do with it to my knowledge. A Google search and you get this. So the other night I had an idea to go one better and outsmart the outsmartee, typed in Piece by Wendy Hill... and because id attached my name it worked!
So I will now, a bit excitedly, be making womens dresses under my own label and not simply a byproduct of the blog as The Textured Leaf dresses. It was about time wasnt it? I have this week, opened an Etsy shop under that name and have been going about simplifying things, (being very hopeful here). I guess ill keep you updated.

a few pincushions

Today I was finishing a few pincushions to place in the shop while cutting out the last two sizes for big girls eskimo patterns and tweaking the design of the lumberjacket.  Im getting somewhere but im still slow. I have to be happy with the slow for now. This last doiley had a fold mark in the centre and ive been staring at it for weeks until thinking that maybe I can actually do a line of running stitch to conceal the stain as the embroidery is still quite lovely. Of course there will be close ups of the 'cover up' but you can never keep a good doiley down,
especially with the doiley drought im experiencing here.

Tomorrow im having a much overdue sewing day with Eleesa from DorothyBills and because I dont have to leave the house, have already declared it a pyjama day.

Ill be busy updating these into the shop this evening.

The market was a huge success and im thinking of enlisting my daughters help.
I have a queen size random quilt to make in blues and creams so pop back in to watch the makings.
Most importantly, this week, ill be trying to catch up on some custom orders.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

new

Just a quick update before I head out for the day to sew at a friends place. You know, away from the distractions of housework and phonecalls.
I have new upcycled cardigans for girls that will be available at the Mulgrave Makers market this coming sunday the 27th.

They will be in various sizes and a big range of colours. Im frantically sewing these for winter but they are so much fun to make. I had to do an op-shop trip yesterday afternoon to get more knits and laces as I had already run out!!!!
But I had a huge stash (so I thought)????

This is one of the boys ones I made that sold on the weekend. Im still buzzing from the day at the festival albeit a bit more slowly. Does anyone else find it hard to come down from a market 'high'?

girls size 4 (will be available in the shop)

girls size 5 (will be also in the shop when I get a chance)

This boys one also sold and there were others that I didnt get the chance to photograph, darn it.

Hope your week is a happy, crafty filled one.
