scenes from a market

There's a tale to tell you all of the mishaps and mayhem that surrounded last nights
market. Ill try to keep it simple.

I forgot things and had to go back, got lost on the way
so was late although id left super early, dressed for a cool evening but it was hot so got sweaty,
hadnt eaten all day cos I forgot to, and didnt like my spot so swapped at the last minute, was alone for the first time and close to tears of frustration (with myself only), and had more props than I ever had plus furniture as well.
Note to self: dont book a market around that time of month.

But I had rescuers! Caring Gen of FrankieGusti and her hubby were there and all set up with time to spare. They gave me huge support and Gen even went all the way back to the van a couple of times to gather all my clothes to give me time to breathe and get my thoughts together. Thanks so much guys. I think I would have headed to the nearest pub if it werent for your help. I still havent done a much needed practice run at home. Stupid me.

Gusts of wind blew the art over as I set up and it was almost the last straw when
(yes ive been reading The Three Little Pigs to a certain someone a bit too often
.....straw......blowing) ....anyway.........
the adorable Danielle from Curiouser and Curiouser came along with a gift just for me.
It was a new homely rug for my stall in the nicest colours. Thanks Danielle, your gift and your timing were perfect. So did you try to match the eskimo jackets or was it a fluke?
And then MrTL turned up and fed me.
I didnt know he was coming until he surprised me.
It ended up being a nice evening, the wind died down and it got cooler.
A favourite customer came right at the lastminute. Shes a woman after my own heart
cos thats just how I shop. While running.

A not so simple story after all.

art production

Heres a quick glimpse of some art for Little Tree Kids were working on. MrTL came home from the market today just as buzzed as I was and here is the result. He's helping me paint some tree art for kids rooms. Who thought getting up at 5:45 this morning and going to market together would produce such a nice result?

These are just the bases and they are looking really good.

Cloudy back drops for trees of course.

my happy list

I have so much to be happy about that some things are just not bothering me.
Im happy that when Mr TL got pulled into the ocean the other week he didnt drown.
He was fully clothed and it was stormy enough to frighten him.
Even though he had his iphone is his pocket and we still havent gotten around to replacing it.
So forgive me if all the washing is piling up but im happy to let it sit there.

Im happy letting the papers and junk pile up around me because at least im healthy and I can choose when I feel like attacking it. Some people dont have the energy or the ability to do the little things I take for granted.

Im happy that I can enjoy the pleasure of my sons company on days
when he should really be at school. Even if hes just playing COD
and wearing his thermals cos someone hasnt kept up with the washing.  Im happy that there is a gamers addiction hotline available for when we need it.
No, really I do love this person. (whoever he is.)
Im happy he kisses me on the cheek when he (finally) leaves the house lately.

Im even happy when there is no sunshine coming in and the blinds have broken again because someone pulled them down by hand instead of with the cord, as it means
there were movies watched late into the night and laughter to go along with it.
Im happy just thinking of sublime thoughts about the family we will soon be enjoying having stay and the close family we have been enjoying lately.
Happy because somehow summer hasnt hit and I was dreading the heat.
Happy I have my mother-taught ability to make my own clothes when I have a full weekend
like this one coming and I dont need to shop like a regular person for something new that
 I will really only half-feel-okay-in.
Happy this isnt a craft post and I have the opportunity to bore you senseless from a different angle for a change. Apart from the washing mention.

I am happy that I have been inspired by this woman on more than one occasion.
Thanks for your happy thoughts Kate!

thoughts

I like lists. I crave the clarity.
I like when others post their lists for us to admire or creatively drool over.
I like when I have a glimpse of other womens lives and what their week will hold.
I was going to post about my huge list of things to do but that is irrelevent as to what has come to pass today.

I have memories going through my head of pictures snapped at the beach just before a thunderstorm
on the weekend while im cleaning out the shed with the mr.
One of our boys is moving into his very own place soon and is taking our excess furniture from the shed
which will be wonderful and we feel lighter for it. .

I hope to be sewing late into the night while waiting for MrTL to arrive home from work.
Its his last week of night shift for a few months and we're being a little bit hopeful that it may be his last ever week of night shift.
Bring on that rock-walling business weve both been dreaming of. Or maybe ill just buy me a quarry and be done with it. He gets to handle the dynamite and ill wait for the dust to settle.  A bit like our life now.
Any thoughts on why a woman would be obsessed by rocks are welcome in the comments.
Craving solidity? A love of a puzzle? Simply likes rocks?

I saw this somewhere a few months back and saved it. I dont remember where for now. If its familiar to you I wont hesitate to give credit as I liked it and thats the reason im posting it here.
However, if I wrote this quote it may not read this simple. I live with an artist and things about us remain complex,
in an artistic way of course. jokes*
He paints but talks of sculpting....
cycles to work but dreams of travelling.....
cooks while thinking of carving.....

He and I 'work'. I couldnt ask for a better friend even when I need to ask for him to just be my friend.
Lately he listens.
Lately he has been someone new im discovering.
Lately, since our 25th anniversary, we are in a place ive never been.
I never knew existed.
A place ive never dreamed of.
 A place that is real.

P.S.  Ill probably do the tutorial update on friday if youve come looking for it.

op shop props

This morning MrTL and I went op-shopping together. Yes. You read right.
Thats Op-Shopping with a capital 'OH! Are you sure?'
Ahem. Thinks are definitely looking up around Textured Leaf Central.
To start us off today we have this gorgeous coat I found. I mean blanket. I mean coat.
This $5 blanket above will become a coat for me in this style.

We were supposed to be shopping for props for my market stall. I found this for $7 and
will do something with it so it looks more 'me'. I thinking aqua or red. Any thoughts?  My son wants it for a bedside table.

I was dropping off a teenager late the other night and parked next to a stack of firewood. So after looking sideways at the stack decided they looked like they came from a nice 'little tree'.
Of course I brought the rest home for old fashioned firewood.
Perfect for weighing down tablecloths at the market and great with little things perched on top.
Theyll send the look towards the scandinavian which I adore. While im writing this theres a funny crow outside making me crack up. I find the sound of crows in the early morning starts me giggling when im half asleep.

These were just waiting for me. The book in the background will be a great nursery bunting.

This quilt will come in handy for the new grandbaby. Its a Lazybones and was only $4!
The pillowcases are a lovely thick soft cotton linen. Wow I never find these, the feel of them makes me think of my nanna.

The best thing about having someone over to sew with you for the day is finding their scraps in your bin the next morning. Naughty Eleesa for throwing these away. I dont know what she was thinking, she normally uses every last little bit like me. But im guessing she was probably tired after all that sewing so ill give her the benefit of the doubt. These are going into my stash!

For any new people who have joined The Textured Leaf, please make sure you enter
my Pin-cushion Giveaway.

Have a lovely weekend!

P.S.  for those of you still around Kate has done a post with 4 favourite photos and I may just be joining in  posting my Favourite Four later this evening. For now im off to the bank to post a cheque ive been neglecting all week.  Come on Rustico!
